Young Writers’ Program

Taught by a teacher with 14 years in English teaching coaching many students to win in international writing competitions

Young students need to equip themselves with the tools of creative writing to be able to transform their rich imagination and ideas into stories.

When young children are just given a topic and asked to write a story, most are left stumped with the usual complains of “I don’t know what to write!” The truth is, children are filled with imagination and ideas. All that is needed is to help them develop the tools to put these wonderful ideas into words and create unique, interesting stories of their own.

This course aims to help children develop the essence of story writing using structure that will be used right through primary and secondary school. Using Roald Dahl’s well-known book ‘The Magic Finger,’ students will be taken on a journey of seeing structure and word play at work in a book they’ll enjoy. By the end of the class, children will have written a short fiction book on their own.

After this class, your child should be able to:

  • Identify timeless structure needed in story writing
  • Use storyboards to create the flow of writing
  • Brainstorm using mind maps to develop descriptive writing
  • Understand texts better with emphasis on writer’s use of vocabulary
  • Develop settings, plots and characters effectively
  • Reflect on text given through critical thinking
  • Have interesting discussions and confidence in expressing their ideas

Debating Course

Taught by an active debater who hosted the World Universities Debating Championship and chaired the United Asians Debating Union 2018

There really isn’t an activity like debating. It’s something we already naturally do, for example, we are debating even when we have conversations among our friends. What we don’t realise is how important it becomes later on in our adult lives, where we have to be quick on our feet, nimble-minded, and well-spoken enough to communicate our ideas effectively. Debating isn’t just about critical thinking, but its also the ability to empathise, to understand, and to generate ideas based on a strong foundation of one’s capability to think and express their mind. The best part is that nobody thinks the same way, and that means this course is tailored to each and every individual based on their individual traits and abilities. Additionally, this course will teach your child how to generate effective and sharp arguments in a systematic manner, and learn how to successfully and powerfully deliver it to an audience.

After this course your child should be able to:

  • Critically analyse global issues
  • Read and listen in a manner that quickly diagnoses issues
  • Learn techniques to delivering powerful, eloquent speeches with confidence
  • Develop a rigorous discipline in critical thinking, analysis, and idea generation

English for Key Stage 3

Taught by an English specialist with many years of experience teaching Critical Reading and Creative Writing.

Moving from primary school to secondary school is a big leap. English from KS2 to KS3 is a significant transition. After this course, your child will be able to:

  • Plan, Draft, Edit and Proofread essays
