Melissa is currently pursuing her Masters degree in counselling at University of Malaya. Her first-class honours degree in psychology from UCSI University honed her interest in helping young people to better understand their unique strengths in order to reap their true potential to the fullest.
She has worked in a variety of fields, chiefly as a subeditor, writer and communications personnel for international non-profit groups (UNDP and ICRC) and local NGOs, publishing houses, medical and advertising companies and a political party. These diverse experiences honed her abilities to relate to people of all ages, backgrounds and skill-sets in order to bring out the best in each individual. She has also been active in volunteer work as a tutor to underprivileged children, theater performances and sociopolitical activities throughout her youth.
As an English tutor at Prepworks, she has greatly enjoyed the chance to help her young students improve their creative writing, critical reading, strong grammar, reading comprehension and conversational English skills at the KS2 level through out-of-the-box activities and collaborative lesson plans to help children to improve focus and express themselves through active participation. With the philosophy of “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body,” she is excited to engage more children in critical thinking and strong writing abilities by cultivating a profound love for words.
